Blue Pool
Central Highlands, Iceland
This is the geothermal area called Hveravellir in central Iceland on a route called Kjölur. The area was first inhabited by outlaws, fleeing from punishment and hiding in the mountains. This area provided some shelter and warmth during the harsh winter months. This pool has a striking blue color which reveals its beauty in twilight conditions.
The color comes from silica rich minerals in the pool.
